BEAR Scotland’s Commitment

BEAR Scotland has been appointed by Transport Scotland, to manage and maintain the North East Trunk Road Units from 1st April 2007 for a term of 5 to 7 years.

Management functions include:

• Co-ordinating all works on the trunk road network to minimise delays to the travelling public
• Authorising road openings, scaffolding and skips
• Carriageway, bridges, road lighting and footway inspections
• Investigation, design and supervision of carriageway improvement and traffic safety schemes
• Approving abnormal load movements
• Liaison with the Local Authorities, Police, Statutory Undertakers and other organisations

Maintenance operations include:

• Routine carriageway, bridges, safety barriers and road lighting repairs
• Cyclic maintenance such as grass cutting and gully cleaning 
• Carriageway reconstruction and resurfacing and the provision of specialist surface treatments
• Replacement of road markings and road signs
• Emergency response
• Winter precautionary salting and snow clearance
